"Though Angela Donovan is out of work and needs money for rent, she yearns for her eight-year-old daughter to have a carefree holiday. The last thing she wants is the pressure of her daughter expecting a miracle. But when they pick out a Christmas tree at a cozy Massachusetts tree farm that’s exactly what happens when they learn the trees might be miracle trees.

Mark Shafer is soon to be the new keeper of the Christmas trees when he inherits the family farm. He’d like to run it with a family of his own, but his girlfriend wants nothing to do with farm life. He makes plans to sell so he can propose to his girlfriend and pursue a career in music. Then he meets an unforgettable customer and her daughter, and an anonymous gift compels them to learn the truth about the trees.

With a buyer willing to pay top dollar for the land, Mark has the fate of the trees in his hand. Will he be able to see what and who is most important? And will Angela give the miracle of love a chance?"

From Chapter Eleven:

“Can we bring something for Christmas?”

“Like what?”

“Can I bring your nativity set?” she asked as she looked at it longingly.

Angela set the grocery bags down in front of the door. She picked up the case and began putting the pieces into their corresponding velvet compartments. Caroline helped. The place for the lamb remained empty.

“I’m sorry I lost the lamb,” Caroline said.

“It’s okay,” Angela insisted. “Don’t worry about it.”

“Will we ever find it?”

“Maybe,” she said. Probably not.

“What did Florinda tell you about the wise men?” Caroline asked.

Angela sighed. Her daughter’s energy seemed to increase as Angela’s waned.

“The wise men? ‘Don’t give up your search for Jesus,’ I think she said.”

“What does that mean?”

“The wise men travelled a great distance. It must have been a long journey, but they didn’t stop until they found Jesus as a child.” Angela almost closed the case, but Caroline reached for another piece.

“What about him? What did she say about Joseph?”

Too worn out to resist her daughter’s earnest inquiry, Angela explained, “Florinda said, ‘when you find someone as loving and as loyal as Joseph, keep him close to your heart.’”

Caroline reached for the figure and tilted her head. “You haven’t found someone like that yet, have you?” she asked.

Angela took the figure back, put it in the case and closed it. She spoke the obvious answer hanging in the air.

“No. I haven’t.”

Holly's two Christmas wishes this year are to finally win her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl, and discovering the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that mystery kisser is the resident Christmas ghost.

~ Amazon ~ Amazon UK ~

Snippet:

This snippet comes from the first time Holly confides to someone about her mystery kiss. She chooses for her confident the resident vicar, who, in her opinion, is too handsome by half.

“….I cannot imagine anyone else in the household would have done it.”
“Hmmm. That is a mystery.”
“My only other thought is …well, it’s hard to even consider.”
“What is it?”
“You might laugh. Or perform that exorcism in truth.”
He tilted his head, his eyes wide. She’d never noticed what a beautiful shade of blue they were, like a clear winter sky.
“Exorcism?” he asked. “Do you think a ghost might have done this?”
She let out a helpless half-laugh. “Either that, or a servant, which seems preposterous.”
He sat back as if pondering, then resumed his task. “That is something to consider. I agree you are right about Lord Bradbury. I do not know him well, but he strikes me as too honorable to engage in that type of behavior.”
“That is my opinion as well.”
They resumed their bough making and bow-tying in silence. She could not guess his thoughts, but hers returned to that night in the conservatory, the sublime beauty of that particular intimacy.
The vicar’s voice broke into her thoughts. “I believe you may be right.”
“I’m right?” She blinked.
“It might have been a ghost.”
She almost dropped her ribbon. “Do you truly believe that?”
“Let’s consider all the other possibilities.”
Working side by side, they discussed each male guest, and every servant that they had seen or met in the castle. The vicar, having spent so much time at this castle over the years in his friendship with Joseph, knew all of them. They went back over what few physical attributes she had detected about her mystery man, and compared them to each male in the household. One by one, they eliminated them all.
Finally, the vicar said, “It is possible that your mystery man mistook you for someone else.”
She winced. “That would be truly terrible. How humiliating.”
He said nothing for a long moment while they worked. Quietly, he asked, “Can you think of anyone we have not yet considered?”
She worked at her bow, trying to get the loops the same size. “No, I can’t.”
A weighted pause. “Then the only other explanation is that some stranger entered the castle.”
She shivered. That thought frightened her more than the others.
While Holly grappled with the prospect, the vicar said what they were both thinking, “Either it was someone else we have not considered, or it was a ghost.”
A ghost.
That would explain why the sensation had been so…unearthly.

"Banished from the South Pole, Kara tries to carve out a new life among the elves of the North. It’s not easy with a secret to protect—a secret she's cursed with by the unusual circumstances of her heritage: half-elf, half-fairy. In the North, she’s assigned to work with Seb on a special project. He's the most gorgeous elf she’s ever seen—and the orneriest.

As if being banished wasn’t punishment enough.

Seb introduces her to Trystin, a fairy from the nearby fairy forest. Trystin discerns her secret right away and promises to teach her how to use the powers given to her by the very thing she’s fighting to keep hidden."

Snippet:

1.     When she was assured no one was near, Kara slipped her jacket off. With a relieved sigh, she unfurled her wings and spread them wide. The relief was immediate. Her gossamer wings might look thin, fragile and delicate, insubstantial, but they were as strong as any fairy’s—and not meant to be constantly rolled against her back.

She shook them out, shivering at the delight that came with the sensation of freedom she always felt when she was able to open them. With a grin, she leapt from the drop off, soaring into the icy wind that rushed across her face and through her long, amethyst hair, the same color as her eyes. As she rushed the ground, she spread her wings—the same unusual shade as her hair—even further, catching the wind and leveling out just above the tree tops. She fluttered them, pure feeling racing throughout her entire body with the motion. Flying like this was as close to bliss as Kara could imagine ever being.

Snowdrift

"Debra ""DJ"" Erfert, a winner of a 2017 Kindle Scout campaign, has authored five published novels, three novellas, and one Kindle World’s novella, and several short stories. She writes what her alter-ego dictates. Maybe it’s her super-ego. In her Window of Time series, Lucy is fearless and strong and has a secret power—all qualities Debra envies. In real life, spiders terrify her, which is why they appear on a regular basis in her books. “Confront your fears, and have your characters squish them!”

Debra uses the pen name DJ Erfert for her paranormal suspense/thriller books, and Debra Erfert for her romantic suspense/mystery books. She is an award-winning fine artist who lives in a southwest desert city in Arizona with her husband, Mike, a retired police lieutenant, where the average summer temperatures are well above 100 degrees—truly hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. After raising two Eagle Scouts, she now spends her time writing and shooing her polydactyl cats away from her keyboard."

Snippet:

“Where is the road, Daddy?”

Abby pulled the blanket up higher around Kathy’s shoulders. She had her sitting on her lap and they sat next to Jack in the front seat of the sleigh.

“I watch for landmarks, sweetheart.” Jack pointed with his left hand, still with the reins intertwined in his fingers. “See those trees lined up in a row?”

“Uh-huh.” Kathy nodded her knit cap-covered head.

“Do you remember those are apple trees and they grow just off the side of the road?”

“Yes,” Beth said from the seat behind them. “I remember, Daddy! We stop there, and you pick apples without Mrs. Nesbit knowing about it.”

Abby grinned over at Jack and waited for him to deny his thievery
.
“Mrs. Albenia Nesbit will be eighty-five-years old this coming New Year’s Day.” Jack glanced at Abby. “Beanie’s been widowed for six years now. For the first two of those years she let her apples rot in the orchard.”

“But why?” Abby quickly asked.

Jack continued. “I found out later, when I did a welfare check on her, that she didn’t have the money to hire any hands to pick her fruit, and she wasn’t physically able to do any of the picking herself.”

“Why didn’t she ask her neighbors for help?” Grace asked.

“Good question,” Abby said, holding Kathy closer.

“I asked her that, since I was her closest neighbor. I watched her face blossom pink, but she said that she couldn’t ask. She didn’t think she deserved any help, since she never helped anyone else.”

“Oh,” Abby said softly. “And this justifies you stealing her apples?”

Jack grinned. “Let me finish, please.” He snapped the reins once. “Get up there!” He captured Abby’s glare. “Southern Wyoming isn’t conducive to growing apples in the first place, but her orchard took hold and she gets a fairly good yield. To this day, Beanie doesn’t know who harvests her small orchard every year, leaving over a hundred bushels of the most beautiful apples in her front yard, and also for the tax deduction she gets for the additional hundred bushels she donates to the Rawlins homeless mission.”

Abby couldn’t keep the tears from blurring her vision. Listening to Jack’s story was more romantic than watching a chick-flick. “You?”

“Not just me, but three other ranchers in the area meet together for a week while our wives keep her busy and away from her windows.” Jack laughed. “She still has no idea who her fairy god-harvesters are.”

“You’re a good man, Jack Reynolds,” Abby said quietly.

“And probably quite selfish.”

“Huh?”

“Beanie had all those apples at once, so she began to cook. If you’ve notice in our pantry, we have shelves of home canned apple butter.”

“Yes.”

“Beanie supplies the whole area with her homemade apple butter, but she also makes the most delicious pies, which she calls upon me to help her deliver to her neighbors.” Jack nodded. “In these past four years she’s done more community service than in all the years before her husband passed away, including getting involved with the mission serving dinners at holidays.”

Abby breathed heavily, watching her breath escape in a burst of mist from between her lips. Laying her cheek gently against Kathy’s head, she gazed at the landscape passing by, thinking about the love it took to do secret good works for a neighbor without expecting anything in return. The canned apple butter was incidental. Abby had a feeling he’d do it without the promise of anything in return. After all that was how it had started.
