The last thing Hannah Palmer wants to do is flirt with men in a crowded ballroom, but when her sister, the Countess of Tarrington, throws a Masquerade Ball, Hannah can’t say no to the invitation.

Taking comfort behind her disguise, she dances with a charming masked gentleman, matching him wit for wit. When the glorious evening culminates in a kiss, and the two remove their masks, Hannah is horrified to discover the man she’s been flirting with all night is her most despised neighbor, the Duke of Suttenberg.

No matter how charming the duke was at the ball, and how wonderful the kiss, he is the last man she could ever love.

Snippet:

As the visitor strode to the steps toward the front door, Hannah wrinkled her nose. Though his hat concealed most of his hair and shadowed his face, only the Duke of Suttenberg possessed such arrogant mastery, as if he viewed himself ruler of all the earth instead of only his own properties.
Though she’d planned to enter through a side door, Hannah followed him up the front stairs so she could better observe the full force of his snobbery. And if she were honest, catching a glimpse of his handsome face would be no hardship. As long as he didn’t turn his intimidating stare her way, she ought to manage to hold on to her wits.
He glanced over his shoulder. Her breath stilled. Though she’d spent time in his company four times—yes, she’d kept track—she was never fully prepared for his masculine allure. She’d seen plenty of gentlemen, including her brother-in-law, Cole. But the Duke of Suttenberg’s face never failed to turn her to a blithering pool of mush.
The duke cast a passing glance over her and intoned, “Inform your master I am arrived.”
Hannah’s mouth dropped open, and her face burned with one-part humiliation and two-parts anger. He didn’t remember her. Worse, he’d mistaken her for some house girl. A servant.
The butler opened the front door, drawing the duke’s attention. “Ah, Your Grace. My lord is expecting you.”

The duke entered without casting a second look at Hannah. Arrogant, thoughtless cad! That he would forget someone whom he should recognize by now spoke volumes to his conceit. Clearly, he viewed her as too far beneath his notice to have gone to all the trouble of remembering her face. True, she didn’t like being the center of attention, but neither did she want to be treated as if she were a patch of mud to be scraped off one’s boots.

Pure evil rises once again in Albia…

Three years have passed since Baron Reen’s trial. A terrible accident on the island of his exile has transformed him into a nightmarish scarecrow creature with dark, mysterious powers. Sullyan is tasked with investigating Reen’s suicide. The missing body and a series of disasters in Port Loxton—a vicious murder, a brutal ambush, and a devastating fire—raise suspicions in her mind. She probes deeper, determined to uncover the truth, unsuspecting of the evil that’s about to be unleashed…

This book is on special offer for this week on Amazon!!! Check out the discounted price below!

Snippet:

“Daughter, forgive me, but I must ask you again; are you sure, are you completely sure this is what you want? You haven’t seen him yet, you haven’t spoken with him. I have to tell you, he is not the man you remember, no matter what his letters suggested.”
Lerric was sitting with Sofira on the bed in her luxuriously appointed chamber, autumn sunlight streaming through the window. Its warmth helped alleviate the horror he still felt after his earlier meeting with the creature Sofira had begged him to save. The king held fast to his daughter’s hands, mainly to disguise the tremble of his own, but also to convey his intense unease. He looked earnestly into her hard gray eyes and willed her to hear his concern. Despite his fear, he was loath to reveal precisely what had taken roost in that fetid cell far beneath the palace floors.
Sofira stared back at him, hearing his care for her, seeing his distress. But it seemed she could not understand his concern, for her brittle eyes glazed with tears. “Don’t you want me to have back what was taken from me, Father?” Her colorless face was animated with hurt. “You know how unhappy I’ve been since I was forced to return here. You know how I ache for my children.”
Lerric nodded. “I know it’s been hard for you. At least at the castle Elias allowed you access to them—”
“Access?” Sofira snarled. “What use is access to me? Never allowed to be alone with them, never to take them out of my prison, never to walk in the park with them? He doled out time with them as if giving tidbits to a dog, and kept me kenneled like one, too. And I a Queen! How could you condone that?”

Lerric thought better of reminding his daughter she had ceased to be a queen when Elias dissolved their marriage. And in light of what she had done—misled by Reen or not, she couldn’t pretend ignorance of the risks she had run—Lerric considered her fortunate not to have suffered the death penalty. Not that he could tell her that, either.

The Hashtag Hunt

Kristina Seek's debut novel, The Hashtag Hunt, was published in 2018. She is a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte and a member of Romance Writers of America. In March of 2019, she quit her day job to focus on a career in writing.

Kristina lives in North Carolina with her husband and son. She cherishes time with her friends and family, loves traveling to new destinations, and plans to cross many other items off her bucket list.

Visit www.KristinaSeek.com and sign up for her mailing list to receive updates and exclusive offers!

The only reason Lauren entered the Hashtag Hunt was for the $10,000 grand prize. She needed seed money for her startup, and it sounded easy enough: twelve hours to text twelve photos to someone called the Wizard.

For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner.

Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six. While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

Snippet:

Lauren pointed to the men in the dumpster. “We’re on a scavenger hunt, but we can step away for a bit if you need closure—”
“Closure?” The  drunk coed squinted at Lauren and shook her head from side to side. “Closure is for confused people. I know why it’s over.” She gave her friend a high five and stumbled a few steps toward the open dumpster. “Let’s do this.” She leaned over the contents and lifted a shoebox out of the plastic bin. “I hate him.” She took the top off the shoebox and flung it into the dumpster. It landed between Brenner and Scott. She shuffled through the items and said, “Birthday cards, spring break souvenirs, concert tickets, pictures.” She lifted a photograph and waved it at her friend. She slurred her words when she asked her friend, “Know what really pisses me off? He’s in all my pictures from college. Four years of parties, holidays, vacations, hanging out with friends.” She held the photo in front of her face and swayed slightly. “All my pictures are ruined. I hate him.”
“Let me help.” Scott reached down from the dumpster and gestured for the box. “I hate him too.”
She returned the photo to the stack and handed the shoebox to Scott. With a turn of his wrist, he dumped all the memories into the trash beside him.
“And it’s not like I could show my kids half of my college pictures anyway. They shouldn’t see Mommy dressed like a slutty Stanley Cup two Halloweens in a row.” She reached in the bin, grabbed a handful of silver lamé, and held up a strapless body-con tube dress. “I wore this tiny dress, silver stilettos, and a silver bowl on my head. It was forty degrees. He wore thick hockey pads and his Penguins jersey…lifted me in the air all night.” She balled up the dress and threw it into the dumpster.
Her friend looked in the bin and said, “It happened a lot with you two. He’s comfy as hell on Halloween, and you’re half-naked and freezing.” She picked up a gallon-size freezer bag from the plastic bin and stared at the contents. She rolled her eyes and handed it to her intoxicated friend.
One by one, the items were tossed into the dumpster. Lauren watched bunny ears, a bow tie, fishnet stockings, and a black leotard fly into the dumpster. The fuzzy bunny tail went in last. She shook her head and said, “What was I thinking?” She reached in the bin for more fabric, unfurling the bottom half of a Princess Leia slave costume. She also grabbed the metal-edged bikini top, neck collar with chain, and hair accessories. “Yeah, I’m keeping this.” The entire costume fell back into the bin. She replaced the lid and let out a sigh when it clicked closed.
The friend pulled her in for a hug and said, “Imagine how much more you’ll love the right guy.”

An Agent for Jessica

Julia Ridgmont grew up in the American West, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she knows how to ride a horse. What it does mean, however, is that she loves to weave the country’s rich history into riveting tales full of romance and intrigue.

When she’s not writing, Julia enjoys cooking, sewing costumes for her children, spending time with her husband, and watching her children perform in sports or plays—or, if she’s really bored or stuck on a plot twist, cleaning the house. She also writes contemporary inspirational romance under her real name, Laura L. Walker.

Follow Julia as she unveils heroes whose strength and courage are only surpassed by their tenderness, and heroines who hide their lonely hearts with a cover of steel. It will take overcoming insurmountable odds and an iron will for them to find a love that lasts forever. Luckily, they have Julia to help them along.

To guard his heart or protect two little girls . . . Is he willing to risk it all?

1871

Pinkerton detective Chas Bryant's last job for the agency is supposed to be easy—deliver a cache of stolen items back to Mount Vernon after recovering them from profiteers. Soon, however, Chas discovers that nothing in this case is simple. When he’s called upon to search for a little girl gone missing after her parents are murdered, there’s only one woman who can help him . . . but he’ll need to make her his wife in order to complete the investigation.

Jessica Flanders is only trying to rescue her younger sister from a fate bleaker than death. How can the powers that be possibly think that separating them from each other is a good idea? Jessica made a dying promise to her parents. Now she needs Chas’s help to get her sister back, but when they dig deeper into the matter, they discover another little girl with an even greater need for being rescued.

Soon it becomes clear that someone else is searching for the missing girl, too. Can they keep her safe until the case is solved and the murderers are caught? If so, Chas and Jessica will need to forge a bond that is stronger than the evil forces surrounding them, and in the process, a love that will never be lost.

Read each of the Pinkerton Matchmaker stories in any order. These agents give the phrase "married to your work" a whole new meaning!

Snippet:

A low growl came from Jessica’s throat. The nerve of this man! “You’ve put my sister in danger without my consent.”
“Hold on!” Chas put his palm out to stop her verbal attack. “The girls are safe where they are. No one else knows Sarah is there, remember? Mark hasn’t told anyone except me.”
“You’re taking him at his word.”
Chas nodded. “Yes. I’m a Pinkerton agent. I’ve learned to read people quite accurately. I know when they’re telling the truth and when they’re lying.”
“Some people happen to be pretty good liars,” she insisted. “You can’t always know the truth just by looking at them.”
He tilted his head and said, “That’s an interesting statement. Care to elaborate?”
Jessica hesitated before plunging on. “My father owned a trading business here in Alexandria. Every week, he carted a load of goods up north into Pennsylvania, sometimes even into New York. Once in a while he even went south to make what he was really doing appear legitimate.”
“Which was?”
“Transporting people. I never once suspected it. He was very good at keeping it a secret. He even told me to my face one time that he was merely a man of trade.”
“He wasn’t lying,” Chas pointed out.
Caught up as she was in her passionate speech, Jessica said vehemently, “Oh, strictly speaking, the phrasing was accurate. But he knew full well that I didn’t know what he was really talking about. That, to me, is lying. Telling someone something with the intent to deceive.”
His jaw tightened, and she knew she’d hit a nerve. As a Pinkerton agent, he probably had to do his fair share of lying. It was part of the job. A job that brought people to justice, she recalled with chagrin. “I’m sorry. I realize there is a good reason to lie occasionally. I just wonder about this boy, if he’s really telling the truth.”
Chas leaned back in his seat, his eyes becoming shuttered. “He is an orphan himself. His growing up years took place in that orphanage. He knew it was a safe place to take her. Also, he said the house went up in flames in two minutes flat. That tells me an accelerant of some kind was used on the property. There was literally nothing that could save the house or the people inside.”
“Kerosene, perhaps?” Jessica whispered as the enormity of his description engulfed her. It sounded like murder, plain and simple. Except nothing was simple about this case. It sounded very complicated. Oh, what had she gotten herself and Amy into?

Mrs Murray's Hidden Treasure

An avid gardener, artist, musician and writer, Emily-Jane Hills Orford has fond memories and lots of stories that evolved from a childhood growing up in a haunted Victorian mansion.

Told she had a ‘vivid imagination’, the author used this talent to create stories in her head to pass tedious hours while sick, waiting in a doctor’s office, listening to a teacher drone on about something she already knew, or enduring the long, stuffy family car rides. The author lived her stories in her head, allowing her imagination to lead her into a different world, one of her own making. As the author grew up, these stories, imaginings and fantasies took to the written form and, over the years, she developed a reputation for telling a good story.

Emily-Jane can now boast that she is an award-winning author of several books, including King Henry’s Choice (Clean Reads 2019), Mrs. Murray’s Ghost (Telltale Publishing 2018), Mrs. Murray’s Hidden Treasure (Telltale Publishing 2019), Queen Mary’s Daughter (Clean Reads 2018), Gerlinda (CFA 2016) which received an Honorable Mention in the 2016 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards, To Be a Duke (CFA 2014) which was named Finalist and Silver Medalist in the 2015 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and received an Honorable Mention in the 2015 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards and several other books.

A retired teacher of music and creative writing, she writes about the extra-ordinary in life and her books, short stories, and articles are receiving considerable attention. For more information on the author, check out her website at: http://emilyjanebooks.ca

There is a hidden treasure in the grand old mansion on Piccadilly Street, in a place called London, but not the real London of English fame. There’s also a lot of mystery and a murder that’s been unsolved for decades. But it’s the treasure that captures Mary’s interest.

Mary lives in this house along with her family, her Brownie friends and a ghost. When the ghost reveals her secret about the hidden treasure, there’s no stopping Mary, her Brownie friends, or her enemies from searching for this treasure.

Why the intrigue? Apparently there’s a little bit of magic connected to this treasure. And so the adventure begins. Who will find the treasure first?

Snippet:

But this treasure alluded her. She knew it was here, in this house, somewhere. The question was, where? And Mrs. Murray wasn’t being any help. Not one bit.
Mary let out a deeply pent up sigh. “You must remember something! When was the last time you held the jewellery in your hands? Did you ever wear the ring? Or the necklace? Or both?”
“Oh yes!” Mrs. Murray beamed, if a ghost could beam through its shimmering effervescence. Even her eyes glistened, sparkled really, as the memories started to wash over her. “I wore it as a teenager. Only briefly. My grandmother gave it to me when I turned sixteen. She said it was very special, full of magic. I didn’t believe her then. I didn’t believe in magic. You see, I hadn’t met Brunny and Pelly yet. They were connected to my grandmother until she died, which was only days after she gave me the jewels. Very sad. She was so strong and healthy. It was as if some horrible curse took her away. That’s what Brunny said when he first appeared to me. Both my grandmother and Brunny insisted I take special care of the jewels. And certainly not wear them around for the world to see. Such a shame, really. They are beautiful. Were beautiful. Are beautiful. I don’t know which, past or present. Do they even still exist? I don’t remember the last time I saw the necklace. It must have been before I left Scotland. Perhaps it is still there. Perhaps I misplaced it. I don’t really know. But the ring is here. Somewhere. If it still exists.”
“Oh, it exists all right.” Mary dropped her legs over the side of the bed. “Maybe if we wander the house together, you might remember and I might sense something.”
“What if we wake your family?”
“I’ll pretend I’m sleepwalking,” Mary chuckled softly. “I do that enough anyway. They’ll believe it. Besides. Everyone’s exhausted. They’re out for the night. Like Dad will say in the morning, sleeping like a log.”
“If you insist.”
“I do.”
“Where are the Brownies? I hope Elizabeth hasn’t poisoned them again.”

“In which case, we shall be extra vigilant as she may be watching our every move.” Mary didn’t say it out loud, but she had decided it might be best to just sense a location of the treasure and then go looking for it in daylight, at a time when she was sure Elizabeth wasn’t snooping.
